Things to Do in Florida: The Wynwood Walls of Miami

You may start to notice a recurring theme in a lot of my blog posts. When I travel, I love to visit places that have art. I love museums, the performings arts, and street performances. I also really love street and wall art.  Street and wall art are normally free ways for everyone to enjoy different forms of art in an open and public setting. I visited Miami last year and the Wynwood Arts District is noted to be one of the top places to visit in the city. If you’re looking for an interesting mix of art galleries, bars, eateries, live music and open-air markets that is just about in anyone’s price range you should definitely put the Wynwood Walls and Art District on your list of things to do.

My sister and I went down to specifically look at the art since there are over 50 blocks of art scattered amongst all the neat restaurants, retail shops, trendy bars. Don’t worry, it’s definitely a place you can take your kids to visit and it’s really safe down there. Keep in mind that it kind of becomes 18-21+ once the sun goes down, so plan accordingly.

Rather than explain every detail or give my opinion of the street and wall art in the Wynwood area, I decided to just show you in pictures and you can make up your own mind without too much of my bias in the picture. So without further delay, enjoy a view of the Wynwood District of Miami, Florida.

I thought this one was a bit cheeky as one photographer is taking a photograph of the other. My sister like to move around a lot so it’s hard to capture a queen bee in her natural element of being amazing. Some people may call it graffiti but as I mentioned, practically everywhere you look in the Wynwood area, there is something somewhere that someone would call art.

Are you amazed yet? Oh but wait…there’s more! Please click on each image if you’re looking for a closer look with more detail. Wall Art at Wynwood Walls in Miami Florida

Street Art at Wynwood Walls in Miami Florida

Street Art at Wynwood Walls in Miami FloridaOne thing I will say is that since it’s such a popular area, plan to circle the block for a while to find a parking space. What is also so cool is that the art is constantly changing so you might not be guaranteed to see the same thing twice each time you visit.

The actual Wynwood Walls courtyard is marked/labelled and gated but you don’t have to stay in the courtyard as it’s actually pretty small with all the people trying to get photographs. So, make sure you venture out and walk around the majority of the blocks as almost every way you turn you’ll find some form of art. We were there around two to three hours, so plan accordingly if you love art. I would most definitely recommend this as being worth a stop while in Miami. Even if you are not that into art, you can still find a cool place to eat or shop and can maybe even plan half a day or more in Wynwood. Leave me a comment on if any of the art pieces struck a chord with you or if you want to know any more details.
